    new video about NETSAYI online

This past summer, Netsayi was visiting her home country Zimbabwe not only to visit relatives but also to shoot a mini documentary about her forthcoming album 'Monkeys' Wedding'. In the video she shows us her past hangouts and explains the way Zimbabwe is deeply connected to her personally and to her songs.

Click on the pic to see the video.

    About the new album:

Monkeys' Wedding is Netsayi’s eagerly anticipated follow up to her widely-praised 2006 debut, ‘Chimurenga Soul’. Netsayi’s music is a subtly alluring blend of soul, jazz, folk and African influences. Drawing comparisons to a modern day Joan Armatrading and Nina Simone, Netsayi’s rich cultural background has shaped her as an artist of great creative inquisitiveness. Netsayi’s voice hits you, then the personality, and they’re both as unexpected and invigorating as each other. In an entertainment world that seems to demand excessive ego as a prerequisite, Netsayi makes a refreshing change.

new album Monkeys' Wedding coming up

Netsayi is one of the UK's most original talents with a live reputation fostered on the some of the nations greatest stages from the Barbican to the Royal Albert Hall. Following the success of her debut album, Chimurenga Soul (“defiantly beautiful” – Observer Music Monthly), her sophomore release, Monkeys' Wedding, mixes her Zimbabwean roots with pop and folk to tell unfailingly moving tales of an independent African - of hope and despair, love and loss, of home and abroad.

    Netsayi news flash

Netsayi’s just been shortlisted for the PRS Foundation’s innovative New Music Award (‘Now music’s got a Turner Prize’ – The Observer) worth £50,000. Her submission, ‘Adjustments’, is an energetic operetta addressing British attitudes to colonialism within the framework of a tender love story. With African music finally beginning to gain respect beyond the ‘world music’ ghetto and recognition for the breadth and depth of its influence, this is the perfect time for a piece of work that will question musical, cultural and political assumptions. Netsayi is collaborating on ‘Adjustments’ with a brilliant team of international artists including Patrick Neate (writer), Chirikure Chirikure (poet), Luke Sutherland (writer/ musician), Alice Sluiter (composer/ musical director).

Read more about it on The Guardian website and Read Netsayi’s entry at the PRS Foundation!

    Other news: -

Netsayi’s just finished recording vocals on the soundtrack to the film of Ernest Hemingway’s ‘The Garden Of Eden’ starring Mena Suvari (‘American Beauty’) and Richard E Grant.

She’s about to sign a spanking new deal with Dutch label, World Connection.

She’s knee deep in writing a new album which will be oven ready before the end of the year.
