Mariza plays in Macao - China
Mariza will be playing in the far East at the end of this summer.First she and her band will head for Macao, China on September 5.

Mariza is back in the Netherlands for a very special concert. The renowned jazz festival North Sea Jazz invited her to perform together with two musicians she already worked with for her latest album 'Terra'. The Cape verdian singer/guitar player Tito Paris and the Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes will be Mariza's special guests during her show in Rotterdam, Holland.

Her latest sets her majestic, unbowed alto over traditional floor–pacing rhythms, alongside the shivering timbres of Portuguese guitar and jazzy–blue piano. The music's saudade — fado's animating spirit, which roughly translates as "sad yearning" — transcends its Portuguese verses. Zo horen we haar op deze cd met Tito Paris in de Kaapverdische morna Beijo de Saudade, in duet met de formidabel uithalende flamencozanger Concha Buika en in enkele solostukken waarop zonder moeite stijlvol zou kunnen worden gedanst.
Dit alles dankzij begeleiders uit verschillende hoeken, onder wie
Sting-gitarist Dominic Miller, slagwerker Horacio Hernandes, de Cubaanse
pianist Chucho Valdes en trompettist Carlos Sarduy. Maar veel moois is
gewoon gebleven; de zangeres zingt nog altijd louter in het Portugees de met
zorg uitgekozen teksten die gewagen van de zee, soul (alma), fado en
melancolía.
Mariza heeft over de hele wereld getoerd en ontdekt dat er meer is dan Lisboa en Coimbra en de daar ontstane fado die ze als geen ander beheerst. Op Terra doet ze verslag van haar ontdekkingsreis en laat ze nog eens horen dat ze behalve over een heldere, ver dragende stem over buitengewoon goede oren beschikt. In het moeilijke Pequeñas Verdades van gitarist Javier Limón 4, de producer van deze cd, blijft ze loepzuiver.
MARIZA NOMINATED FOR LATIN GRAMMY AWARD ONCE MORE
For the second year in a row, Mariza is nominated for “Best Folk Album” by The Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.“Terra” is the fourth album by Fado singer Mariza. The Portuguese artist is nominated for the category of “Best Folk Album”
Other nominees are Damaris , Black Peru, Walter Silva and Cholo Valderrama.
“Terra” was released in Portugal and Spain on the 30th of June. Since then it has been the # 1 record on the Portuguese charts.
Recorded between Lisboa (PT) and Madrid (SPA) was produced by Javier Limón, one of the most acknowledged producers of the moment.
Limon was responsible for recordings by Bebo Y Cigala, Buika, Light Couple, Paco de Lucia, Enrique Morente or Carlinhos Brown.
In “Terra” Mariza sings poets such as Florbela Espanca, David Mourão Ferreira or Ary dos Santos. Also participate in “Terra” Dominic Miller (Sting) , Concha Buika or Tito Paris .
Mariza will start the European tour of Terra performing just in September at the “Cirque D´Hiver” in Paris and the Biennal de Lyon in France. In October Finland, Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Germany will follow.
The Latin Grammy Awards winners will be presented on the 13th of November 2008.
