Blick Bassy formed his first band, The Jazz Crew, whose repertory already reflected his penchant for bossa nova.In 1996, at the . age of 22, he took part in the creation of Macase, one of the most inventive of the numerous “jazz fusion” groups, inspired by local rhythms, which proliferated in the clubs in Cameroon. This group collected well-known African prizes (Prix Découvertes RFI, Masa, Kora, etc.)
“Hongo Calling” is only the second personal CD from Blick Bassy in 20 years of a rich musical life. The album reflects him perfectly. Conceived as a passionate musical travelogue, he follows the tragic “slave route” from Cameroon to Brazil, passing through Benin, Senegal and Cape Verde.
There are the inevitable comparisons of Blick Bassy with some of his compatriots: Manu Djibango (with whom Blick often played, Guy N’Sangue (the marvellous bassist who provides support throughout this album) or Richard Bona, who functions as guitarist, percussionist and co-arranger on “Likanda”

Blick Bassy a guest in the TV show ZANDO LIVE (France O)
Blick will play a set of one hour in the TV music program ZANDO LIVE of France O.The program is comparable to MTV unplugged. An audience is welcome to join Blick Bassy live on Wednesday the 13th of January in Paris.

Sweet Cameroonian soul.
Recorded both in Paris and Salif Keita's studio in Bamako, Bassy's debut album is a remarkable mix of Central and West African styles - including Malian griot music - blended with samba and soul. he imbided the sounds of Gilberto Gil, Marvin Gaye and Nat 'King' Cole from his parents' vinyl collectio, and their influence is most evident in Bassy's wonderfully warm vocals and bossa nova guitar rhythms. Backed by kora, calabash and double bass, this semi-acoustic album has a summery, subtle funkiness that's touched with a hint of sadness. Based in Paris since 2005, he evidently misses Cameroon. Leman, Blick explains, is a mirror: "You can see behind you in a mirror. Leman is about my past, really, and about being African." It's also a magical debut full of charm, tenderness and grace. - James Maycock.

Blick Bassy a guest at TV show VPROs Vrije Geluiden
Blick Bassy was invited for the taste makers TV show VPRO's Vrije Geluiden. Other World Connection artists that were guests of Vrije Geluiden in the past are among others Mariza and Sara Tavares.
World Sessions artist Daby Toure will also play live music in Vrije Geluiden (on tv on the 12 of April).
Blick Bassy's live performance and interview in Vrije Geluiden will be broadcasted on Sunday 29th of March.

Blick Bassy support for Salif Keita / un angel negro in Columbia
Hot news is that Blick Bassy will open for Salif Keita in the Netherlands in May.
- 3 May: Theaters Tilburg, Tilburg
- 4 May: Melkweg, Amsterdam
Blick Bassy recently went to Columbia for a couple of gigs.
He was called "un angel negro" by his fans.
